There is lots to do around Cabot Cottages! Here is our curated list of recommendations on activities in the area, from outdoor adventures, to great food and drink, to authentic cultural experiences on the Cabot Trail.



Attend a Cèilidh

The Baddeck Gathering Cèilidh is every evening at St.Michael’s

Parish Hall just 15 minutes away, where fiddle music is combined with some light story telling and served with tea and oat cakes. The Gaelic College is 4-minutes from the cabins and hosts cèilidhs on Wednesday evenings.




Taste the Local Craft Beer

Big Spruce Brewing is a fantastic local brewery just 25 minutes from the cabins, past Baddeck. There is a food truck on site, bonfire pit, lawn games, and there is often live music. They’re open daily 11am-7pm.



Eat Fresh Seafood

The closest restaurant is just a 2-minute drive away called the Lobster Galley. It’s waterfront - shares the same bay as the cabins, and provides lots of delicious seafood options. If you're in Baddeck grab lobster and a huge bucket of mussels at the Baddeck Lobster Suppers. 


Discover a Waterfall

Uisge Bàn Falls is 30-minutes away, past Baddeck. The hike is only 1 to 1.5 hours round trip, and you will stroll along a beautiful wooded trail until closer to the waterfall where the path becomes navigating larger rocks.



Learn About our Local Giant

Stop in at the Giant MacAskill Museum located just 2 minutes from the cabins, for an interesting tour of a real-life local giant who stood at 7'9" and weighed 425 lbs.




Stop at Nearby Lookoffs

Within a 4-minute drive you can stop at two amazing lookoffs - St. Annes Overlook and the Seal Island Lookout. Cross the bridge and stop at Cedar House Bakery & Restaurant for some homemade bread and cookies.



Artisan Shops

Take the Englishtown ferry, one of the four cable ferries in the province, then stop at all the artisan shops along the Cabot Trail before Wreck Cove. See glass blowing at Glass Artisans Studio, chocolate making at Cabotto Chocolates, pottery making at Wildfire Pottery, pick up some snacks and interesting finds at The Other Cupboard Emporium, and grab an ice cream cone at the Wreck Cove General Store.



Archery

Highland Bow and Arrow in Wreck Cove offers archery lessons - learn to

shoot at targets and then take a try on the 3D course through the forest!





Gaelic Culture

The Great Hall of the Clans Museum at the Gaelic College is just 4-minutes away. In addition to a museum there are specific times throughout the day with weaving demos, kilt making, storytelling, and music and dance.



Bras d'Or Lake Boat Tour

Departing multiple times per day from the wharf past The Freight Shed restaurant, Lake Amoeba Tours hosts 90-minute boat cruises on the Bras d’Or Lake. Live music is on board Thurs- Sunday.



Museum

Check out the Alexander Graham Bell Museum to learn about the invention of the telephone and of aviation history in Baddeck. A must-do on the Cabot Trail for any museum lovers.




Bird Watching Boat Tour
